This is a time for remembrance.
A time to honor those who have sacrificed their lives or suffered in war
so others who follow can enjoy freedom and hope.
On the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month
in 1918 the Allies and Germany signed the Armistice
to end the fighting in the First World War.
Over the years since,
this time and date have come to be observed
as a memorial in many countries around the world.
Millions pause for a minute at 11:00 a.m. in honor of those who died.
